Koolunga youngster Lachlan Nally’s brave actions earlier this year has earned him plenty of accolades.
Lochy was a passenger in his dad Matt’s car when it rolled over on a country road near Koolunga in January. Realising Matt was badly hurt, Lochy gave his dad CPR before running almost three kilometres barefoot to raise the alarm. His actions probably saved his dad’s life.
In recognition of his bravery and quick thinking, Lochie has been presented with a Lions Club Children of Courage Award and a Shining World Hero Award from the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association as well as the Russel Medal from the Royal Live Saving Society - and it’s likely the recognition won’t stop there.
But for Lochie, now 12, it all seems a bit of a fuss about nothing. The main thing is his dad is out of hospital and back home.
“We’ve had lots of media attention – Take Five magazine offered me $1000 for my story, but I wasn’t interested – it’s not about me. They wanted to do a profile of Lachlan, which is okay, but we’re a bit sick of all the fuss to be honest,” Matt Nally said.
“Lochie’s school has tried to keep things as low key as possible and we’re trying to keep things normal at home.”
The Koolunga community, however, is pretty proud of the young lad’s actions in giving his dad CPR before running to get help.
Younger brother Alex, 9, said that although he wouldn’t have run such a long way in the dark, especially not barefoot, that he thought Lochie might be an ambulance officer when he got older.
