1ST SEMI FINAL, HELD SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, HOSTED BY BBH
A1: Blyth /Snowtown 47 defeated North Clare 46
North started the first quarter well with Emma Coles dominating the goal circle, giving them a four-goal lead at the first break. Blyth Snowtown came out firing with a 19 to 10 goal second quarter. They used Maggie Nicholson’s height to catch up, with some great feeding by Kristy Lewis. A very physical game by Blyth Snowtown rattled the North players. Kristy Lewis worked hard and caused turnovers, as did Kartia Stephens at C and Bernie Keech at GD for Blyth Snowtown, taking them to a 5 goal lead at the last change. North’s Kel Vasek and Rachel Pearce took some nice intercepts in the last quarter as North pegged back to level the game. Maggie held strong and Neralie Rowan passed in well from WA, even though Lauren Finey (WD) for North gave 100% all match. Sonia Pawelski shot accurately for North, but Blyth Snowtown held steady and took the match by 1. What a nailbiter!
A2: South Clare 50 defeated MinMan 49
Outstanding 1st quarter by both teams leaving it even at quarter time 14-14. In the 2nd and 3rd quarters South really broke the game open, with fantastic shooting by Katie Woodrow and Belinda Dare, and brilliant defence by Kath Woodrow and Amy Parker, providing them with a strong lead by 9 at 3 quarter time. There were great contests down the entire court which created many turnovers. In the final quarter the rain came down and MinMan were able to change the momentum of the game with great turnovers by Kate Faulkner and Laura Hadley. Clinging onto a 1 goal lead, South were saved by the final bell! A great game by all.
B1: South Clare 43 defeated Blyth Snowtown 31
A tightly contested game throughout. South Clare got off to a strong start leading 13-7 at quarter time with some great shooting by Brittany Daly. B/S defenders Bec Jamieson and Kerry-Lee Welke tussled hard and made some good turnovers, but South continued with a good shooting performance by Casey Knight and Brittany Daly. Blyth Snowtown’s GS, Stacey Mugge, was also very accurate and never stopped trying, but South were up 26-14 at half time. Centre Court players Cherie, Kerrie and Elyce fought hard for Blyth Snowtown and had some good passages of play. Positional changes unsettled South for a while but it went goal for goal in the second half. South Clare’s defenders Sharon Reid and Sarah Cutting provided some great defensive intercepts and South took the win 43-31.
B2: South Clare 43 defeated MinMan 41
The South Clare girls had a big task ahead of them today. Missing their coach due to pregnancy they had to be more mentally prepared for this game than any other. South Clare started well with great defensive pressure all over the court, which gave them a 4 goal lead at quarter time. South had increased their lead to 6 by half time, even though MinMan were maintaining pressure and had a tighter defensive quarter, with Georgina Grosset taking some nice intercepts. Gabi Ashmeade and Ellie Collins fed beautifully to South’s goalies throughout the game. MinMan goalies, Maddie Jacka and Nic Faulkner, were flawless, capitalizing each time the ball entered the ring. MinMan put up a real fight in the third quarter to get back level with South, their defence worked tirelessly throughout the game capitalizing on every rebound and every loose ball. South Clare steadied their heads and were 4 goals up coming into the last quarter. The 4th quarter was pearler with MinMan coming back into the game again, however South regrouped and finished off with some fantastic netball. Kath Cutting and Kayla Jenner shot beautifully for south Clare, Kayla at GS being very hard to beat with her height. South won a great game by 2 goals, and it was a fantastic one to give the spectators their money’s worth!
C1: RSMU 38 defeated North Clare 36
North started well with Mel Maynard, the pocket rocket, on it through the centre. A young RSMU side steadied and evened up the second quarter with their WA playing well. RSMU clawed their way back to be in front by a goal at half time. Julie Lewcock and Hayley Cliff put in the hard yards for North in defence, with many turnovers. The 4th quarter was a great tussle with Kate Fuller (NC GS) jumping into action, but brilliant performances by RSMU’s GK Shannon Fuss and GD Ella Noack saw the fourth place team take out the close match by just 2 goals!
C2: North Clare 43 defeated South Clare 18
South Clare came out comfortably in the 1st quarter, but a strong , physical North Clare had settled and started their lead. South fought to catch North in a low scoring second quarter, but they made silly errors, with North fighting hard through the defence of Jeanette Dreckow, Danielle Sharp and Victoria Jenkins to extend the lead to 7 goals at half time. North made changes that saw the game change with Tegan Kelly and Rebecca Read shooting well and extending North’s lead to 15. North excelled in the final quarter with great defence by Danielle and Jeanette. Strong shooting by Tegan Kelly in the last quarter with 13 goals. North were ecstatic about winning and finding a great team combination.
15U: BSR 37 defeated MinMan 36
BSR started off well with great defence work by Sara Lehmann and Darcy Crouch. Brilliant shooting by Georgia Mills along with back up from Catherine Smart, Amber Hayes and Karlia Hage for BSR. Eliza Kitschke kept her eye on the ball and followed up any loose balls. There was many turnovers by both teams in the 2nd quarter. Katelyn Maynard defended tirelessly for MinMan. Crystal Hinge worked hard in the midcourt. BSR pulled away but accurate shooting by Molly Bruhn toward the end of the quarter saw MinMan come back, with BSR by 7 at half time. MinMan’s defenses rattled BSR in the third quarter. Sophie Willmott fought well through the centre court, and Emma Willmott used her height in goals to advantage, taking the score to an even level going into the final quarter. In the last term both teams gave 100% and there were many loose balls going end for end. Catherine Smart stepped up for BSR and was the turning point of the game to enable BSR to win by 1 goal. Great umpiring ladies!
J1: South Clare 32 defeated North Clare 30
North started well, and South found some good shooting from Lauren Collins and Maddie Reynolds. Simone Bennie and Ebony Aughey were stong in defence for South, with Simone taking some inspirational intercepts. The scores were level at half time and South took a 1 goal lead into the last quarter. South got a 4 goal run on, and Sammy Nield and Lauren Thompson came on strong in the middle for their half. North made a strong come back and made some quick turnarounds, but South held on in the last minute!
