St Joseph’s Primary School held their sports day on Friday April 11.
In 2007 the school managed to complete their sports day in gale force winds and rain.
Just as sports day got going this year so did the rain, on and off for quite some time but still enough to make the day miserable.
After working out the rain wasn’t clearing, teachers and children pushed through as many events as possible before the rain really set in.
Held at the Clare High School oval St Joseph’s sports day had all traditional events.
These included long jump, high jump, shot put, 100m, 400m, 800m, discuss and the vortex throw which is a modified version of javelin.
All students from reception to year seven competed in the sports day.
“We’re praying for better weather next year… it’s about time it was a nice sunny day,” principal Peter Shearer said.
Past student and great role model Kirsty Faulkner opened the event, giving students a reason to try for their team and helping them to believe in themselves.
According to Mr Shearer the leaders of each house did a great job and the help from parents, families and teachers is wonderful, he also mentioned the grounds looked magnificent even with the current drought.
The day was almost finished when the rain set in for good and St Joseph’s sports day has been postponed until term two, hoping the rain doesn’t spoil the few events left to complete.
