Clare Croquet Club captain Jean Victor, assisted by club president Georgie Todd, organised a fun day for croquet players from throughout the Upper Wakefield Croquet Association at Clare’s Gleeson Street courts on Saturday.
The program was entirely Jean’s inspiration.
Players participated in a range of modified games which were enjoyed by all who attended.
The trophy matches were won by Ruth Loader (Blyth CC) with the runner- up tied between Graham Clark (Blyth CC) and Rob Stevens (Clare CC).
A play-off resulted in Rob Stevens being successful.
The consolation prize was won by Chris Reimers (Balaklava CC).
There was great hilarity in the afternoon with prizes awarded for a variety of games devised again by Jean, followed by afternoon tea during which a competition was held with all answers referring to things connected with croquet. \Nancy Williams (Balaklava) won the raffle with Chris Reimers (also from Balaklava) winning the second prize.
The visitors from other clubs enjoyed the day so much that they have requested that it be held again in the future.
Clare club members were delighted and grateful to Ivan Victor for his ingenuity in designing and making the unique trophies presented on the day.
The current pennants season in the region commenced on Wednesday, October 1, and will continue until Wednesday, April 1, when the final matches and season wind up will be held at the Clare Courts.
The Clare Croquet Club also has a group of social players who play each Wednesday at the Gleeson Street courts.
The Club invites anyone who wishes to explore the game to join members at their social play on Wednesdays at 9.30 am or to contact the club secretary, Rae on 8842 1043 or the club coach, Euan on 8842 2664.
