Central Zone ruckman Todd Miles won the Player of the Championship award at the SA Country Football Championships held in the Riverland at the weekend.

The Mintaro-Manoora gun footballer won the prestigious award after eye-catching performances in the two games played on Saturday at Berri.

Todd was named best player on the ground in the opening game of the Championships against Eyre Peninsula Zone and followed that up with another best on ground performance against South East Zone in game five on Saturday.

Todd led the way dominating in the ruck getting first hand on the footy to set up his on-ballers with first use of the ball and they didn’t let him down with their constant movement forward out of the centre setting up their victories to advance to the grand final at Barmera on Sunday.

The tireless work-rate by Todd also earned him the position of first ruck in the Team of the Carnival.

Peter Mann was also named in the Team of the Carnival. The BBH star won plenty of the footy over the weekend and was rewarded with the key position of centre.

Blyth-Snowtown ball magnet Ryan Darling was named on a wing in the Team of the Carnival and RSMU high-flyer James Vandeleur won a spot on the half-forward-flank.

Todd, Peter, Ryan and James were also selected in the 29-player State Country Squad to compete at the 2008 Landmark Australian Country Carnival to be held at Shepparton from July 24- 27.

Brodie Murphy didn’t come home without rewards for his performance over the weekend either. The South Clare utility had a consistent time in front of the goals nailing three majors in each game to win the Leading Goal-kicker award with nine six-pointers.

Congratulations to the Central players rewarded for their efforts over the two-day carnival and good luck to the four South Australian Country Squad representatives from Central as they strive to make the final 24 players that travel to Shepparton in a couple of weeks.
